Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya is one of the branches of well-known service organisation Ramakrishna Mission, Belur, India. Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya was founded by Thiru T.S. Avinashilingam Avl. in the year 1930. Foundation stone of Vidyalaya was laid down by Mahatma Gandhi in the year 1934.Vidyalaya stands for the educational ideals preached by Bhagavan Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi. Vidyalaya cherishes a life of purity and discipline, simplicity and service, nourishes the ideals ‘Work is Worship’ and ‘To Labour is to Love’ and the capacity to work independently.

Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya is situated in a plot about 300 acres at Perianaickenpalayam just 18 km from Coimbatore. The particulars regarding various institutions of Vidyalaya have been included at the end of this prospectus.

About College of Arts and Science

Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya College of Arts and Science is one of the institutions of Vidyalaya situated in a serene and peaceful environment which kindles the spirit of motivation for a peaceful academic pursuit to achieve the aspired zenith. It was started in 1964 to do commendable service in the field of higher education for rural students. Autonomous status was conferred in the year 1981 due to phenomenal contribution in the field of education. The college is recognised by the UGC under 12(B) and 2(f), affiliated to Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, approved by Government of Tamilnadu, and reaccredited by NAAC. Our college offers 13 UG and 6 PG programmes in both aided and unaided streams, besides offering 11 M.Phil and Ph.D programmes. Student strength is above 2000. Research is one of the main focuses of the college to inculcate research thoughts and mind boggling ideas among the researchers. As a result of it, so far the college has produced 470 M.Phil and 160 Ph.D. scholars.

About the Department

Sophistication in every walk of life is the order of the day. The info- revolution has created a growing demand for perfect computer professionals. Our college took up the task of meeting that requirement, and started the MCA course with state-of-the-art infrastructure and skilled mentors in 1998-99. The senior batches of students have been placed in various reputed companies, and have proven themselves to be inestimable assets.

Under the autonomous scheme, the MCA course aims to develop in students both knowledge and skills to apply computers in productive work in business, scientific applications in industry and research laboratories, and higher learning. Considering the rapid rate of obsolescence in the computer field the course has been designed to meet the challenging needs of the industries.

Model for UG students to Work and progress with Higher Study

In our history of Vidyalaya, We have mentioned it is an autonomous college. We have a few words to say about MCA programme of our college. It was started in 1998 with an intake of 50 students. Previously our placement record were low even though there were bright students. Somehow we managed it and placed them in decent companies.

Since CEO of these companies are members in our board of studies, we frame the syllabus according to their needs of their company and teach the students accordingly. It could be done because of autonomous college and service oriented institution.
